In the early 70's, Slade was one of the most popular bands in Europe and totally ignored in the states. Times changed and soon they were out in the cold, even in Europe.

Their success was mainly, of course, depending on Noddy Holder & Jim Lea's ability to write good music and lyrics, but also to their glitter & glam image that made them well visual in the press, the same image that later on made their reputation suffer. If it hadn't been for that image, they had surely earned their place among the real big bands.
